MIAMI -- David Ortiz was pleasantly surprised to learn he hit his latest home run into the nightclub beyond the left-field fence at Marlins Park. Wes Welker Authentic Jersey . "I did? Is that a club out there?" Ortiz said. "Lets go there now then." The Boston Red Sox and their slugging first baseman were in a mood to celebrate Wednesday night after beating the Miami Marlins 10-2. Felix Doubront allowed only three hits while pitching a career-high seven innings, and the offence broke loose with 14 hits. "We need to score some runs," Ortiz said. "Weve been a little short doing that. We needed that." Ortiz hit his 15th homer and drove in three runs. Adrian Gonzalez hit a pair of RBI singles, and Scott Podsednik scored twice, drove in a run and had two hits to hike his average to .373. Doubront (7-3), coming off the worst start of his career, retired 16 in a row and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He struck out nine and allowed two runs. The left-hander hadnt pitched more than 6 1-3 innings in his 15 previous career starts. "Felix Dubront was outstanding," manager Bobby Valentine said. "He had all of his arsenal. He had an explosive fastball. He threw his curveball for strikes early and late. He had a good change-up and a cutter. Boy, thats good pitching." The Red Sox took two of three games in the series, while the Marlins went 1-8 on their homestand. They were outscored 56-17 while hitting .196, including .127 (8 for 63) with runners in scoring position. The Marlins frustration boiled over in the ninth inning with a confrontation involving manager Ozzie Guillen and Heath Bell. Guillen went to the mound to remove the reliever and became angry when Bell lobbied in vain to remain in the game. They then had another testy exchange in the dugout, and coach Joey Cora had to step between them. "It was basically like two bulls hit in the head," a contrite Bell said later. "Ozzie was upset we were losing. I just said, I can get this guy out." ... I apologize. I didnt mean any disrespect. It could have been huge, but it really wasnt." Guillen said he removed the reliever because Bell had thrown 19 pitches and didnt need any more work. "Im not going to make that guy throw 35 pitches for no reason," Guillen said. He said he became upset when he misunderstood something Bell said. "I thought I overheard something," Guillen said. "We already talked about it, and its over with. Its not a big deal. I thought I heard something different." With the game-time temperature at 82 degrees, the teams played with the retractable roof open for the third night in a row, and the balmy weather seemed to suit Doubront fine. The Venezuelan faced an all-right-handed lineup and kept the Marlins on their heels with a fastball clocked at up to 95 mph. Doubront twice struck out the side. He threw 81 pitches and the Red Sox led 4-0 before the Marlins managed a hit, which came on a homer by Jose Reyes with two outs in the sixth. Doubront said he wasnt thinking about a no-hitter. "I was realizing something was going on, but I was just enjoying and thinking first of all, get the win," he said. Three relievers helped do just that by completing a four-hitter. Ricky Nolasco (6-5) allowed four runs, three earned, in six innings for Miami. In his past seven starts, he has five losses and an ERA of 5.98. The Red Sox put the game away with five consecutive hits in a six-run eighth, including four against Randy Choate. He failed to retire a batter, and his ERA rose from 0.48 to 2.41. Nick Punto pinch-hit for Doubront to start the inning and doubled, then added a two-run single when the Red Sox batted around. Ortiz hit an opposite-field solo homer into the Clevelander nightclub in the fourth. The Red Sox added two runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Gonzalez and a 400-foot sacrifice fly by Ortiz. Boston went 7 for 12 with runners in scoring position. The Marlins trailed 4-1 when Hanley Ramirez singled and Giancarlo Stanton doubled to start the seventh. But they scored only one run when Doubront retired the next three hitters, including Justin Ruggiano on a RBI forceout. MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Rudy Gay re-entered a close game with about five minutes left and ended the Denver Nuggets hopes of earning a win on the second night of back-to-back games. Gay scored eight of his 19 points down the stretch and Memphis rested starters pulled away for an 81-72 victory on Saturday night. "His work was definitely showing tonight," Memphis guard Tony Allen said of Gay. "He carried us down the stretch. He made the big boy baskets down the stretch." Gays rush was part of 10 straight points for Memphis, breaking open a 68-68 game with 4:45 left. His 18-footer on the baseline with 1:25 left gave Memphis a 10-point lead, helping the Grizzlies snap a two-game losing streak. Zach Randolph had 12 points for Memphis, which won despite shooting 40 per cent. The Grizzlies outscored the Nuggets 28-15 in the fourth, eventually building the lead to 11 points. Andre Iguodala, Corey Brewer and JaVale McGee each had 12 points for Denver, which had its two-game winning streak end. Kenneth Faried had 11 points for the Nuggets, hitting 5 of 7 shots. Danilo Gallinari, coming off a career-high 39 points Friday night against Dallas, was held to 7 points on 2-of-8 shooting. "We just ran out of gas, and ran out of bodies," Nuggets coach George Karl said. "We didnt have anybody really playing a great game. We worked them as hard as we could. The fight was good, but then with the fourth quarter and turnovers, it just broke our hearts." The back-to-back games and good play by Memphis bench in the fourth quarter combined to pose problems for Denver in the closing minutes. "They had more energy than us in the fourth quarter," Brewer said. "Their bench came in and played great for them. ...We are on the fourth (game) in five nights. It is tough." The game was tied at 68 when Gay took over. He scored on a pair of layups, the second coming on a feed from Randolph. He hit a 12-foot fadeaway before Randolph scored inside. Gay capped the 10-0 stretch with an 18-foot baseline jumper for a 78-68 lead with 1:25 left. "Rudy was great. He went in the game for us and made big shots," reserve guard Jerryd Bayless said. "That is what Rudy is supposed to do. He is our guy, and we have to ride him as far as he can go." Wayne Ellingtons 3-pointer with 23 seconds remaining gave Memphis its largest lead, 81-70. While the fourth-quarter rally fueled by Gay put the Grizzlies past the Nuggets down the stretch, a major component was Memphis second unit playing extended minutes in the final period, staying close to the Nuggets. TThat helped the Memphis starters stay on the bench until coach Lionel Hollins sent Gay, then Randolph and point guard Mike Conley, back into the game on either side of the 5-minute mark. Brandon Lloyd Womens Jersey. "I was fresh, because of the second group playing so well, and I could go out there and be in attack mode," Gay said. Denver scored 48 points in the paint, while holding the Grizzlies to a season-low 30 points, but neither team shot well from 3-point range with Denver hitting 3 of 16, while Memphis managed 5 of 19. Memphis held a seven-point lead in the first half, but needed a jumper from Bayless in the final second to hold a 37-36 advantage entering the locker room. McGee gave the Nuggets their first lead of the game on a dunk with 8.1 seconds left in the half. Gay led Memphis with 10 points at the break, but the game was rather sloppy as Memphis shot 39.5 per cent from the field, compared to 45 per cent for Denver. The two teams were a combined 3 of 15 from outside the arc. No Denver players were in double figures at the half, and Gallinari, who had hit 14 of 23 against Dallas, was scoreless, missing all three of his shots. That slump ended immediately at the start of the second half as Gallinari connected on a 3-pointer, but he would not score his other field goal until the closing seconds. The game settled into a close affair after halftime with seven lead changes and five ties in the third quarter. The night ended with 12 lead changes and nine ties. With some expecting the Grizzlies and Nuggets to be jockeying for playoff positioning at the end of the season, the win was important for Memphis. Denver had won the two previous meetings this season and a third would have given the Nuggets the potential tiebreaker. "It was just important to get a win," Hollins said when asked about losing three to the Nuggets. "I dont think (Denver) specifically mattered, they just happened to be the opponent. We had lost two in a row, and we needed to get back to playing our game."
