(Sports Network) - A pair of defending division champions now sitting in third place get together again tonight when the Cincinnati Reds visit Tropicana Field for the middle test of a three-game interleague set with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Reds took Mondays opener when Jonny Gomes homered against his former team and Mike Leake pitched six shutout innings in a 5-0 victory. Brandon Phillips went 4-for-5 and knocked in a pair of runs for the Reds on the eve of his 30th birthday. Fred Lewis had two hits and scored once as Cincinnati bounced back from losing two of three at Baltimore over the weekend. The Reds moved to 7-0 all-time against the Rays. Leake (7-4) limited the Rays to four hits and snapped a personal two-game skid. Sam LeCure allowed one hit over the ensuing two innings and Nick Masset finished up the shutout. Jeremy Hellickson (7-7) had nine strikeouts over six innings, but lost his fourth consecutive start. The Rays have scored a total of one run in those games. Ben Zobrist and Matt Joyce each doubled twice for the Rays, who had a four- game winning streak broken. Theyve lost just twice in their last 10 contests. Cincinnati, which won the National Leagues Central Division last season, is 3 1/2 games off the pace of the front-running Milwaukee Brewers so far in 2011. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay, which won the AL East in 2010, is 2 1/2 games in back of the first-place Boston Red Sox. The Reds start red-hot Dominican Johnny Cueto, whos allowed three runs or less in each of his nine starts this season. The 24-year-old, in his third big-league season, has won his last three starts, including a 10-2 defeat of the New York Yankees on June 22 in which he allowed just a run and two hits in seven innings. It was the fourth straight start -- and sixth of the season -- in which Cueto has pitched at least seven innings. He has never faced the Rays. Tampa Bay counters with lefty David Price, a 19-game winner last season who got win No. 8 this year with a 6-3 triumph at Milwaukee on June 22. In that game, the first overall draft pick in 2007 allowed two runs on five hits in eight innings, walking just one batter while striking out 10. Hes now split a pair of interleague starts in 2011 after losing a 5-3 verdict at Florida on May 21. Price has never faced the Reds. These teams hadnt met since Cincinnati swept a three-game set from the Rays in 2005 in the Queen City. In fact the Reds have won all seven of their meetings with the Rays.
