PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Baltimore Orioles left fielder Nolan Reimould was taken to a hospital after he was hit in the left side of the head by a fastball from Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Alex Cobb in the first inning of a 3-3, 10-inning tie on Friday. Reimould, batting fifth in the lineup, immediately dropped to the ground and was face-down for several minutes while a hushed crowd watched nervously as Orioles trainers tended him. Also looking on was a visibly upset Cobb, who said in the Rays clubhouse, "Its probably the worst feeling you can have as a pitcher." Reimould eventually walked to a cart, which took him off the field. CT scans came back negative, although he does have a loose tooth. Cobb pitched three scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks in his first start of the spring. CARDINALS 3, TWINS 2 FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- Adam Wainwright pitched two scoreless innings in his first start in over a year, leading St. Louis over Minnesota. Wainwright missed all of last season after having elbow ligament replacement surgery and hadnt pitched since Sept. 24, 2010. He walked one and struck out two Friday. Wainwrights return for the Cardinals was offset by some potentially troubling news: ace Chris Carpenter left Fridays practice session with a sore neck. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Carpenter as day to day. Jason Marquis made his second spring start for Minnesota since signing in the off-season and gave up three hits and a run over three innings. MARLINS 3, NATIONALS 0 JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Stephen Strasburg allowed two runs on three hits in three innings in his second start for Washingtong, with all the damage coming in the third inning. ATHLETICS 6, ROCKIES 4 SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Juan Nicasio took another big step in his remarkable comeback from a broken neck when he threw three impressive innings in Colorados loss to Oakland. This was his first start since Aug. 5, when Washingtons Ian Desmond scorched a line drive that struck the stocky right-hander in his right temple, fracturing his skill. The fall broke his neck. Eight months later, Nicasio is trying to earn a spot in the Rockies rotation, and the club was eager to see if hed be shy, recoiling or cutting off his follow through to protect himself. He showed none of that, not even after Eric Sogard sent a comebacker right past him for a single in the first inning. Nicasio gave up an unearned run on five singles. GIANTS 6, REDS (SS) 3 SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Buster Posey and Freddy Sanchez, two key Giants who missed most of last season because of injuries, returned to action in San Franciscos victory over Cincinnati. (AP) -- Scott Rolen singled in a run to help a Cincinnati split squad beat Kansas City. Rolens health is a key for Cincinnati after the veteran third baseman played in only 65 games for the Reds last season. He had surgery on his left shoulder in July. Rolen has five hits in nine at-bats this spring and appears to be mobile in the field. Royals left-hander Danny Duffy, in his first spring start, struck out five of the six batters he faced, including Rolen. Brad Stevens third game with the Boston Celtics was just like his first two. Jennings had 14 points and four steals in 31 minutes and Andre Drummond and Josh Smith added 15 points each to help the Pistons keep the Celtics and their first-year coach winless with an 87-77 victory. "Im ready to play now," Jennings said after missing the teams first two games and most of the preseason with a jaw fracture related to a wisdom tooth. The Pistons (2-1) trailed 65-63 early in the fourth quarter but went on a 10-0 run to take the lead for good and win their second home game in as many tries. Drummond added 12 rebounds for his second straight double-double and Greg Monroe grabbed 10. Jennings had two steals after the Celtics cut the lead to 79-77 with less than 2 minutes to play. He got the first steal to Rodney Stuckey, who was fouled and made two free throws to give the Pistons some breathing room. Detroit held Boston scoreless the rest of the way. "It was good to see him out there and the effect he can have on the team," coach Maurice Cheeks said of Jennings. "He brings a little electricity to a game." Rookie Kelly Olynyk scored 15 points and Avery Bradley and Jordan Crawford added 13 each for the Celtics (0-3). "We had stretches where we played well defensively," Olynyk said, "but there were too many times when they got away with a couple of big runs." The Pistons outscored the Celtics 10-5 in the last 5 minutes of thhe first half and took a 45-35 lead.dddddddddddd Boston made just five field goals in the second quarter and had that many turnovers. The Celtics finished with 24 turnovers and Detroit had 21. Cheeks said turnovers -- the Pistons had 60 in their first three games -- remain a concern. "Our defence is usually pretty good but when we have turnovers, its tough to get back and defend," he said. "Its something we have to keep working on." Detroit was much more effective on the glass, where it outrebounded Boston 44-37. "We had our opportunities," Stevens said. "They pounded us in the paint all night and that really hurt us." Detroit outscored Boston 54-38 down low. Jennings, who came to Detroit during the off-season in a sign-and-trade deal with Milwaukee, wore a facemask that covered his chin. He took the mask off in the fourth quarter because it was uncomfortable. His jaw remains closed with a series of bands while the fracture heals. "Im not used to playing with something on my face so it was my decision to take it off," he said. He fell to the court after colliding with Brandon Bass in the final seconds of the first half but showed no ill effects when he returned for the third quarter. NOTES: Crawford was assessed a technical foul by referee Sean Corbin midway through the fourth quarter. ... Detroit F Charlie Villanueva (left shoulder) missed his third straight game. ... Detroit wore navy jerseys with "Motor City" in place of the teams name. The salute to the regions automotive heritage will be worn nine more times this season. ' ' '
