ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor will miss Sundays game in Houston because of a sprained right knee. The Raiders ruled out Pryor on Saturday and announced that undrafted rookie free agent Matt McGloin will start against the Texans. Pryor had a setback at practice on Friday and had been listed as questionable. He leads all NFL quarterbacks with 504 yards rushing. But he wore a thick brace over his knee during last weeks 24-20 loss to the New York Giants when he was held to a season-low 19 yards on the ground and sacked four times. McGloin was 7 for 15 for 87 yards in relief of Pryor against the Eagles in Week 9 in his first game action of his career. He will be the 17th quarterback to start for Oakland since the start of the 2003 season. The Raiders also promoted rookie Tyler Wilson from the practice squad to back up McGloin and waived defensive end Brian Sanford. Wilson was a fourth-round pick but was beaten out for a roster spot by McGloin. McGloin entered training camp fourth on the depth chart. He was originally a walk-on at Penn State before setting the school record for career touchdown passes. "What can you say about Matt McGloin? Having been in that league, I know it takes a smart guy, it takes a competitive guy, it takes a guy that does the same thing every day," said Penn State coach Bill OBrien, the former offensive co-ordinator for the New England Patriots. "He works at it. Hes in the office early, he leaves late. Thats what Matt is. Everything Matt gets, he deserves because he works for it. Its going to be fun to watch him play." McGloin will start against another undrafted free agent in Houstons Case Keenum. This marks the first time since 2011 that two undrafted free agent quarterbacks started against each other. Kansas Citys Tyler Palko faced Chicagos Caleb Hanie on Dec. 4 that year, and Miamis Matt Moore faced Dallas Tony Romo on Nov. 24. Disregarding the strike year in 1987, this will be just the second time two undrafted quarterbacks in their first year in the NFL started against each other, according to STATS LLC. The only other time it happened came on Dec. 1, 1985, when Dieter Brock of the Los Angeles Rams faced Bobby Hebert of the New Orleans Saints. nike free run pas cher . "Some people say that time heals all wounds, but that Game 7 loss still stings and almost reminds me of 2007," the Senators owner said Monday via conference call, referring to when Ottawa lost in the Stanley Cup final to Anaheim. "Its something you wont forget for quite a long time, but it happened and we move on." Melnyks words were his first publicly since the New York Rangers beat Ottawa 2-1 on Thursday in the seventh and deciding game of their Eastern Conference quarter-final series. Overall Melnyk felt the season was a success and said it was important to remember expectations were surpassed for a team many had predicted wouldnt make the playoffs. "The rights probably outnumber the wrongs 20-1 so Im going to focus on what went right for us," he said. "There were very few expectations that we would get to where we got. "We are in the very first year of a rebuild and lets call it what it is and its a rebuild year." In addition to the teams playoff run, Melnyk was quick to point out other highlights that included captain Daniel Alfredsson scoring his 400th career goal, Chris Phillips playing in his 1,000th career game, the evolution of defenceman Erik Karlsson and Ottawa hosting a successful NHL all-star contest. Senators players could also figure in a number of post-season honours. Karlsson is nominated for tthe Norris Trophy, Alfredsson is up for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy and head coach Paul MacLean was named a finalist for the Jack Adams Award.dddddddddddd "With a list like that its hard for me to say theres any disappointment at the performance of our team and the organization the past season," said Melnyk. "Its been a great, great year with great memories and I think it can only be better." Melnyk would also like to see Alfredsson back with the team next season. The Senators captain is contemplating retirement although he will play for Sweden at the upcoming world hockey championship. "Theres no question we want him back," said Melnyk, adding hed be happy to keep the 39-year-old in the organization if he retired. "The players want him back, I want him back, the coaching staff wants him back, the fans want him back and even his kids I read want him back. "Everyone wants him back. Its a very personal decision at this point." As part of this seasons rebuild Ottawa significantly reduced its payroll, but general manager Bryan Murray has expressed a need for a stay-at-home defenceman and a scoring forward. And the Senators will likely have to dish out more to keep Karlsson, who is slated to become a restricted free agent. "(Murray) knows what we need to work and within what numbers we need to work and I think we can still get to a point where we fulfill those needs without breaking our bank," Melnyk said. ' ' '
