GLENDALE, Ariz. Dick Butkus Womens Jersey . -- The Phoenix Coyotes say forward Brett MacLean is improving after being taken to hospital for a cardiac emergency last week. "We have been in contact with Bretts family and the hospital over the past week and the reports are that he is doing well and his condition is improving," Coyotes GM Don Maloney said in a statement released Monday. "Brett will continue to undergo tests with the cardiology team at University Hospital in London, Ontario." The 23-year-old winger was taken to hospital July 2 after suffering a medical emergency while playing hockey in Owen Sound, Ont. The Coyotes said MacLean received CPR on site before being taken by ambulance to hospital in Owen Sound. He was then taken by air ambulance to London, where he was admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit. MacLean played most of last season with the Portland Pirates, the Coyotes American Hockey League affiliate, where the London native had 25 goals and 23 assists in 63 games. The Coyotes picked MacLean 32nd overall in the 2007 draft. He has two goals and three assists in 18 career NHL games with Phoenix and the Winnipeg Jets. The third-seeded former world No. 1 Sharapova overcame 11th-seeded Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, over two days at Ashe Stadium. The fourth-seeded Williams cruised past 12th-seeded Ana Ivanovic 6-1, 6-3 in 58 minutes. Sharapova will face current world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in a semifinal here on Thursday. Azarenka beat Sharapova in this years Australian Open finale and is 5-4 lifetime against the Russian superstar, including a 2-1 record, all in finals, in 2012. The Sharapova-Bartoli match was suspended because of rain in New York on Tuesday, with the 2007 Wimbledon runner-up Bartoli up a pair of breaks at 4-0 in the first set. The resumption of the bout was then delayed by rain on Wednesday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Bartoli would return to finish off a first-set win, despite losing three-of- five games in the stanza on Day 10 of the fortnight. Sharapova then answered by taking the second set to set the stage for a tight third.
